Luke 22:25-27 (NLT)
“Jesus told them, in this world the kings and great men lord
it over their people, yet they are called ‘friends of the people.’ But among you it
will be different. Those who are the greatest among you should take the lowest
rank, and the leader should be like a servant. Who is more important, the one who
sits at the table or the one who serves? The one who sit at the table, of course. But
not here! For I am among you as one who serves.”
Jesus spoke very highly of service. He referred to service as greatness in the
Kingdom, He once said concerning Himself that the Son of Man did not come to
be served but to serve and to give His Life as a ransom for many.
One of the blessedness of motherhood is that it gives those who embrace it the
opportunity to share in what God calls greatness.
Anatomically the woman has been designed to nurse life, God trusts her with the
lives of Children yet unborn. The moment the seed is planted, her instincts come
alive to care, protect and foster growth for the little foetus in her womb. Such
anatomical and psychological wiring only shows how much faith God has in the
female gender for life to be preserved and nursed on the earth. This is the crux of
motherhood – serving God’s purpose to raise the next generation correctly and
with zero dysfunctionality.
Since we have established the connection between motherhood and service, let us
go on to examine the demands for accurate service before the sight of God.
Service must be done faithfully:
As you go about the duty of motherhood, it is important to bear in mind that it is a
duty that will be accounted for at the Judgement seat of Christ. While this thought
might appear frightening, a closer look at it will be a springboard for great
encouragement. Knowing that God sees all the challenges you have handled, all
the late nights, all the early mornings, the tears, the laughter. God sees it all and
His reward is with Him. Men may not applaud you, you may feel stuck or worse,
feel like you are retrogressing, falling behind your peers all because you have to
take care of your little ones. Let your hands not be weak or your heart discouraged.
Jesus promised rewards for all good and faithful servants.
Service must be done with gladness:
God delights in a positive attitude, a radiant countenance while you do His bidding
is His delight. It shows that you are not serving Him grudgingly. Remember,
obedience is not enough. We must be willing and obedient. The challenges of
motherhood are enormous no doubt, however a proper perspective will greatly
improve how you handle everything. As it is said in common parlance, every
challenge presents an equal opportunity. An opportunity to grow, to become
empathetic, to be more tenacious, more refined, the list goes on and on. One thing
that I can say for motherhood is that the joy far outweighs the pain.
Service must be done patiently:
No one can experience genuine fruitfulness apart from patience. When a seed is
planted, it stays hidden for a period of time, unnoticed, unappreciated and
unrecognized but in the process of time it grows and becomes a beautiful shelter
for the birds of the air, bearing fruits delicious to the taste and nutritious for the
body.
That little seed has become a tree bearing many fruits. Not just fruits but seed-
bearing fruits. Can you see that?
All it takes to have a huge forest is a seed, nurtured with patience through different
seasons. God has called you to serve Him through motherhood with patience,
resilience and determination.
A forest of well brought-up, God-fearing children is rising, and God is depending
on you to make that happen.
