My husband has never enjoyed tragic movies—dramas based on human suffering or sorrowful
events that befall a main character with no recovery—and as I grow in the knowledge of God, I
too find myself avoiding them. This change stems from understanding how much faith God expects us to have and how it should shape our expectations towards life and godliness. In the Bible, Jesus Himself expressed admiration for the faith of two individuals: the Roman centurion (Matthew 8:5-
13) and the woman of Canaan. Our God wants us to believe in Him for everything, both big and
small, whether it's walking on the sea in a boisterous wind (Matthew 14:29-
31) or having enough to eat (Matthew 16:6-11).
The verse that inspired this meditation is Matthew 17:20, where Jesus assures His disciples that
faith, even as small as a mustard seed (one of the tiniest seeds), can move mountains. Initially, I
took this verse literally and dismissed it since I have no business with any rock standing on its o
wn. However, it eventually dawned on me how many metaphorical mountains we must scale as
believers. Whether it's doing right in God's sight, submitting to one's husband, raising spiritual and intelligent children in this depraved world, or overcoming the fear of marriage as a single person, these are all mountains that require faith.
For example, if a child is struggling to read or write in school, a believing parent or guardian should have faith that the child’s inability (mountain) will be moved. This faith motivates them to find ways and tips to help the child. Another example is a single brother or sister desiring to get
married but fearing the future. They should believe that God’s plans are for good and not evil, and this faith enables them to include God in their marriage and seek biblical wisdom for a Godly
matrimony. The key is to know what God has said concerning every aspect of your life, as only through faith comes instruction.
In conclusion, it is important for us to share our faith and not our fears. We should testify how
we had faith, held onto God, and saw different mountains moved from our paths. The besetting
sin of masturbation may seem like a big mountain to a struggling believer, but knowing it is possible to overcome it through the testimony of a delivered brethren and the help of the Holy Spirit can fast-track salvation.
Let us continue believing, and nothing will be impossible.
